I am looking for Cherokee heritage in my family. My grandmother always said we had it. Cannot trace it back. We have lived in Mitchell County North Carolina for many generations.

I was just in Mitchell Co., NC about two weeks ago looking for my Cherokee Maiden ancestor. I have been told that NC did not keep records on the Indians until after the 1900’s. There wasn’t any on my GGGG Grandmother. Her name is Morning Star. That is how I have spelled it but I am thinking that is her last name and it is spelled Moringstar. I have found some from that area with that last name but I am having trouble getting them to get back in touch with me. I wrote one a letter explaining what I want. I did find out her dad’s name who lives in another state. I am going to send him a letter. I am in hopes that they may be some descendents of Morningstar/Morning Star.
