Chestnut surname

I am looking for information as to whether or not my grandmother’s family was in part Cherokee or other tribe of Native Americans. My paternal great-grandmother’s maiden name was Cornelia Florence Chestnut. I was told she may have been full or half blood Cherokee by her daughter, my grandmother. She only had anecdotal based info. No written records. Her family was located in western Virginia and eastern West Virginia.
