Chief at Round Spring in Missouri

December 21, 2015 by Victoria 1 Comment

I have learned my great grandfather was a chief of a small band of Cherokee that used to meet at Round Spring in Southern Missouri. His daughter was N. McDanials (1840-1890?) His granddaughter, Anna May Jamison-Reeves (1858-1899) is my Grand mother and I am trying to further her lineage back in time. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance. **Please contact me directly at**: anniann35@yahoo.com

What Cherokee band met in Round Spring Missouri?

The Cherokees that had moved to extreme southeast part of Missouri either moved back east or further into Arkansas following the New Madrid earthquakes in 1811-2. Also, chiefs are well-known as a matter of definition, because they receive recognition from a community of people. And communities have known locations.

A chief who had a child born around 1840 would indicate that this was post-Removal. There were no Cherokee communities in Missouri at that time. There is something a little askew no this particular query. Perhaps you could clarify your source, or where you learned that a g-grandfather was a chief. I’m assuming he had the surname McDanials. Do you have any more info that could narrow this down?
