I am looking for any information on a Dorcas, or possibly listed as Dorothy, Ann Taylor. She was born to Joshua Taylor and a Mary Eleanor Cooksey on Dec 18, 1824 in Kentucky. She was married 3 times and I’ve been told that her second marriage was to a Cherokee man who was on the Trail of Tears by name of Andrew Taylor. They had a son also named Andrew Taylor. I have been told that Dorcas was Cherokee but her family was able to escape from being sent on the Trail of Tears. I found an Application for Cherokee Citizenship in 1896 for Dorcas under the name Dorcas Ann Holeman and all of her kids are listed. She died in 1899 but I also found out in the 1900 census that two of her son’s lived in Indian Territory. (Cherokee and Creek) and more information that anyone might know would be really helpful.

There was a book recently written called “Andrew Taylor Man of Mystery. It was written by a provisional genealogist for the Allen Jones Foundation which just dedicated Taylor Spring Park and anointed Andrew Taylor as founder of Cleveland Tennessee. He was not Cherokee but married my 4th great grandmother and together had a beautiful daughter Elizabeth Taylor, my 3rd great grandmother. He sued the US Government and won 26,000 dollars for Jennie Bigby’s land and disappeared forever. You might be the first lead to know what happened, but Andrew Taylor was only Cherokee by marriage to Jennie Taylor and had no Cherokee blood. You can read the book online.

Wow, I’d have to look into him. I would love to have anymore information you might have on your Andrew Taylor to see if they might be the same. I’ll check out the book.
All I have been able to find is that my Andrew Taylor married Dorcas Ann Taylor in March of 1846 in Kentucky and they had a son born December of that year also in Kentucky but by 1847 Andrew Taylor had left his family and was dead in Nebraska. I have no idea why or how.
