From Goins to Gaines

When my brother traveled to Kentucky to try and find some answers to our many dead ends he went to the courthouses around Lily one of the ladies there told him our great great grandfather was Calvin Goins and our great great grandmother was Deliah Hodge. When things were in turmoil in the 1800 his family went into the hills to live when they came out many years later they registered as Gaines in the lily census his sons name was Marshall Buckhanava Gaines born in 1855. Marshall’s wife was Luethisa Parker 1861 their son was my grandfather John Gaines 1886 his wife my grandmother was Ada Watkins 1902. I have talked to my elders and they have all told me the same thing we are Cherokee. Luethisa told them she was born at Hines cave in Kentucky and lived by a great Cherokee commerce center in Kentucky. I have old glass plate pictures that were sent to my grandfather around 1910. the paper jacket on one of them says TO JOHN GAINES O SI YO DO HIT SU YOUR COUSIN JOHN CALVIN BROCK THESE ARE SOME PICTURES OF OUR BROCK FAMILY IN KENTUCKY. I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT KNOW SOME OF THEM DO NA DA GO HV I. I would love to here anything that anyone may know.
