Ok my name is Chris. I’m looking for my grandmother’s number on the rolls. She is Cherokee. Her name is Gladys Louise Heiskill. The problem is her father’s name is Henry Knight, but as I found out she was using her mother’s last name of Johnson. She was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in March of 1926. Later on down the road she married a man named John Clinton Heiskill Sr. I’m stuck and I really need help. Please Thank you

How did you find she was using her mother’s maiden name?
In any event, someone born in 1926 would not be listed on the Dawes Roll. It was closed in early 1907. It was briefly reopened in 1914 to admit just over 300 individuals that had been missed (in all Five Tribes, not just Cherokee). There are no Heiskill families listed on Dawes, and Johnson is too vague (or, common) to narrow down without having more specific information. Such as, what was Mrs. (Johnson) Knight’s first name? Age ranges, locations, etc.?
