Help with clans

September 15, 2022 by bruyere Leave a Comment

I am a member of the Cherokee Nation and my lineage goes at least 4 generations back on all of my female ancestors. My great great grandmother was on the Trail of Tears. She was born in NC and appears on the 1910 Indian Census in OK, where we all live now. She registered with the Cherokee Nation, but her husband didn’t even though he was half Cherokee/half white. He was embarrassed by his lineage back then as many people did. Anyway, she was named Elizabeth Buffington and was decended from Tom Buffington (known back then as the last Cherokee chief). The only thing that I don’t know is what clan I’m from and I am very interested in learning this. Is there anywhere I can find it, because it wasn’t passed down to us.

Thank you for your help!
