I’ve gone round and round trying to find information on Martha Malone. The story I keep getting is that she was full blooded Cherokee, married James Alexander Gilliland, and sadly died giving birth at age 16. She was born about 1823 likely in North Carolina and died about 1839. I’ve seen this story in several places. I can not find any solid evidence to confirm this story, or any information on her parents. I’m tracing my and my wife’s family history. Martha would be my fifth great grandmother. I did not expect to find Native heritage in my lines. It’s very exciting to discover, if it’s true. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
