I am looking for any information on my GGGG Grandmother Morning Star, Cherokee Maiden who lived with her people in a village on Little Rock Creek, NC in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. She would have been born in the 1700’s. My GGGG Granddad, David Vance I, born 1788, took Morning Star across the state line into TN and they had four children. There could not be any record found for a marriage. The children took the fathers last name, Vance. One of their sons, David Vance II, married Betty Rose. Their other son was Abner Vance, and they had two daughters by name of Delila Vance and Jane (Jenny) Vance. I was told in NC that they did not keep records on Indians until around 1900. Please let me know if you have any information on her. I would love to find her. I think this happened around the time of “Trails of Tears”.

For a start look at a map of the Cherokee villages in the 1700’s to figure out the name.of the village. That will give you a starting point.

Thank you. I have been to where she was from and there isn’t any Indians there now. I will find a map and see if he may have changed. I was told by NC that they didn’t have any records on the Indians prior to around 1900. I was told by an Indian that at the time David took her that it was around the time of Trails of Tears and that if he hadn’t that she may have been killed. Most of the Indians was made to leave then. I am still looking into it. Again thanks.

I am very new at this site, so not too sure where to post my questions. I am in search of documentation on my DeFoor, Dover and Helton clans registering under the Mud Creek Band Cherokee in AL.
Robert S. DeFoor applied for a fishing license under this Band.
His mother was Lucinda C. Dover. Lucinda’s mother was Margaret Elizabeth Helton. My Helton clan is connected to Abraham Helton 1843 and Jack Owl. I am also looking for documentation that my Dover’s and Helton’s were registered under a Cherokee Band, probably in either GA, TN, or AL.
