To be honest, my ancestry search starts as with many cliche ones do…my mom told me my grandfather said we have Indian in our family. To be even more unsure of things, I am not even sure if our Indian ancestor is even Cherokee.
My search has led me to two possible family lines that could have an Indian ancestor.
The first suspect ancestor is Samuel Floyd Hale, born 1817 in Georgia and died in 1870 in Mississippi. He moves to Independence County, Arkansas in 1833 when he was 16 years old and has two children in Arkansas before moving to Mississippi. I cannot find any birth or marriage records for Samuel Floyd Hale in Georgia or Arkansas, the two respective states he would have been born and married in.
The second suspect ancestor is on the Hazelwood portion of my family. Either Elizabeth Ann Allen, wife of William Temple Hazelwood, or William Temple Hazelwood’s mother Nancy Cole may have been an Indian or had an Indian ancestor. Nancy Cole I am having a lot of difficulty finding her parents in Virginia.
I am a realist, there is a chance there really is no Indian ancestry at all in our family but if any of this information looks suspect at all or if any additional information is necessary I’ll follow up with as much information as I can.
Thanks in advance.
