I am searching for information on my great grandfather’s mother, Sarah or Sally King. She is by family tradition a full-blooded Cherokee. She married John King who’s birthplace was said to be North Carolina. Sally was born in Georgia. Her son, my great grandfather, was Jasper King born 1845 in Georgia.
The area they originated from has been told to be in the Blue Ridge of Northeast Georgia where Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina converge.
Jasper King, is first listed in records in the 1900 census of Bledsoe, County Tn. His wife was Mary Janey Howard. There children were, Sally Elizabeth (Brittana Lesah) King, Tommie King, Issac King, and Emmett Edward King; my grandfather.
Jasper Kings life before he married Mary was pretty much kept secret by him. Family members believe he may have been married before he did my great grandmother. My uncle said he was a housegaurd in Civil War for the Confederacy. It is believed that when his father died of blights disease, Sally his mom remarried. He left over a disagreement it has been said. My uncle was the oldest and could remember some things he was told by Jasper after he joined the church in his 80’s. Jasper would disappear often sometimes for months. It was told he had half brothers over in that area.
A few names have been passed down that has been connected to his family. One is Tawquit, Tolquit, and Smoke.
