I am researching my father’s mother’s family. My great grandmother, Mattie Williams Swan Johnson, gave a brief genealogy of her father’s family. This page in the genealogy was very brief.
Beginning with her
Mattie Williams Swan Johnson –
b. November. 4, 1907- d.March 1997
Charles L. Williams- (her father)
b. March 14, 1868 Washington, Ark.
d. Feb 20, 1960 Texarkana, Ark.
m.
Mattie Nelson Williams (her mother)
b. Feb. 10, 1866 Washington, Ark.
d. March 6, 1953 Hope, Ark
James Williams (Charles’ Father)
b.(not given)
d.(not given)
m (not given)
Wife’s name not given
Col. John Wilson Williams 2 of 3 brothers
b.(not given)
d. (not given)
m. (not given)
Wife’s name not given
James Williams
b.May 2, 1763 South Carolina
d.1851-
(It says James’ grandfather was a ship’same carpenter from Wales who settled in Charleston say around 1750 + same ancestor as S.H.WMS. buried in Old Pioneer Cemetery, Washington, Ark..)
Again there’s no marriage date,
No name of wife.
It goes on to say that
James Williams, from Wales, disembarked at Charleston, S.County. particularly because he was a ship carpenter. He had a family of 11 sons and 2 daughters- several of whom were born after arrival in America.
I have been trying to fill in the blanks. My Internet searches have determined that my 5th great grandfather, James Williams, or his father James Williams from Wales, may have married a Kizah or Keziah Floating Cloud, rumored to be 1/2french, 1/2 Cherokee.
I am trying to untangle the confusion of what others have posted online. If anyone knows the names and dates of my grandmothers’ and if the Cherokee legend is true, I would love to learn more.
My father and his family were absent from my childhood. This information became available to me from my aunt who shared it when I was in my late 30’s.
I am also interested in meeting cousins!
Thank you in advance,
Melissa

So what was your grandfather’s middle name…?/was it L: for Lesh or Lish? And if so , what is your question ? What’s his wife name?

Thank you for replying.
Mostly, I want to be sure that Kizah is in fact a grandmother of mine, as the research paper passed on to me does not list the women, just the men.
Unfortunately, I don’t know the middle name of either Grandfather James Williams, as there were 2 My 4th and 5th great grandfathers .
I’d be happy to share a photo of the document.

I am following this thread. My husbands 5th great grandmother was Keziah Elizabeth Floating Cloud Brooks (1728-1785) m: James Williams (1730-1776). Their son, Phillip Williams m: Ann Floating Cloud (1754-1840) I would really like to document these woman with the appropriate sources that my be available.

I have been researching from my fathers side of the family through his grandfather Andrew Long Andy Williams. From what I have found after Philip Spike Buck Williams married Ann Floating Cloud Desnmore Vest they had Hardin Williams, who had James Williams, who had Andrew Williams who had my great grandfather Andrew Long Andy WIlliams who had my grandmother Amanda Williams who had my father Harold Dobson. I found quite a bit through My Heritage and https://www.vestfamilytree.com/getperson.php?personID=I222&tree=Vest

Same family. I just earlier this year paid the site’s owner to research this family for us, cousins. We may yet get certified answers!

This Hardin Cherokee connection sounds eerily similar: https://www.allthingscherokee.com/queries/rebekah-great-granddaughter-talaquah-nc-ms/
Tallaqua/Tellico, Cherokee Chief, with a daughter/granddaughter who married a white man named Hardin? And their daughter as a result was half Cherokee… Isn’t that our claim?
